FIGHTING FOR ISSUES THAT MATTER MOST

For our public school system, Ryan Walters left in his wake damage to our schools and the students they serve that will take years to repair. His power remained unchecked and drove Oklahoma to the bottom in the nation for education. Now we have to rebuild to prioritize increasing teacher pay, investing in intervention and other strategies that will help our students read on grade level, including smaller class room sizes, after school programming, mental health support for children, and stop unfunded mandates.

From taking power away from voters to operating in the dark behind closed doors. Politicians have proven time and again, they are in it for themselves. We must demand accountability and reform the legislative process so that the government works for everyday people and not just powerful millionaires funding the campaigns of those in office. We must ensure our district remains corruption free and continues to demand the absolute best levels of accountability and fidelity from its leaders and for our community. I will be that person who shows up, holds others accountable and leads by example with integrity every single day. 

No Oklahoman should have to choose between paying their bills and seeing a doctor, especially in a state where too many families struggle with high medical costs. I believe expanding access to quality, affordable health care will strengthen our workforce, support rural hospitals, and ensure every individual can thrive.  Increasing access to doctors and protecting the decisions between a patient and their doctor is a top priority for me. 

Working with students and our most vulnerable populations for a portion of my career taught me many important things but the one issue that popped up across the years is folks need more access to prevention and early intervention. We have to increase funding and opportunities for all individuals to access mental health services. We have to put more money into our rehab and substance abuse services and prevention efforts. I want to work with our organizers on the ground to make sure the important work is happening to keep our community safe. 

Oklahomans shouldn’t have to worry about choosing between paying their rent or putting food on the table. The cost of living has gotten out of control for far too many and wages are not keeping up. We have to do better to support working families. We need policies that will address the rising cost of housing, insurance, child care and what it takes just to get by.Your feedback helps us grow. Our elders have dedicated their lives to serving us. They raised us and paved the way.  After years of hard work we need to ensure our elderly community is supported. We need to ensure they have access to reliable transportation, access to critical health care services,  and retirement systems that work for them.  Our elders should not have to chose between going back to work to afford groceries and medicine. They deserve more.

After advocating for our community and serving the Oklahoma City Police Department for years - I know that we have to do better when it comes to criminal justice reform. We have to work with folks and intervene in their lives before it turns to crimes.  We need to ensure we are not locking up our sons and daughters for petty crime but rather investing in diversion programs. We have to do more to help people in crisis so our jail and our prisons are not over crowded.
