Derrick is a lifelong Oklahoman who grew up in a large, blended family shaped by faith, music, and service. He later attended Graceland University on a football scholarship and earned his degree from UCO while supporting his wife, Tequia, and raising their two children, Nia and Ethan. His career has focused on youth development, education, and leadership, including opening his own small business, One Mind One Spirit (OMOS), where he serves as a national and international leadership facilitator for global companies. Derrick has worked in the community for years. He worked extensively with the Oklahoma City Police Department and Oklahoma City Public Schools to build trust between youth and law enforcement through mentorship, juvenile intervention programs, and community engagement initiatives like FACT and Man Up. Most recently, he serves as Youth Workforce Director at a local nonprofit in NEOKC, guiding others to a successful career. He also works as an author, and community leader dedicated to expanding opportunities and closing gaps in education, employment, and the justice system. Derrick and his family live in Oklahoma City and attend LINKED church.
